We engage in research of real problems associated with building a resilient digital society. Specifically, these involve issues related to building capacities in cybersecurity, management and regulation in cyberspace, and critical infrastructure resilience.
These issues are inherently complex. To solve them, it is necessary to search for and combine approaches and methods from various fields and technological domains.
Therefore, the foundation of our research is multidisciplinarity. We integrate approaches from computer science, management, law, security studies, economics, and other social sciences.

C4e is coordinated as a part of CERIT (Centre for Education, Research and Innovation in Information and Communication Technologies) activities and involves collaboration among experts from the Faculty of Informatics MU, the MU Institute of Computer Technology, and the Faculty of Law MU.
The centre builds upon the project “Centre of Excellence for Cybercrime, Cybersecurity and Protection of Critical Information Infrastructures” (reg. no. CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_019/0000822), which was financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The project focuses on creating a comprehensive and universal qualification framework for cybersecurity in the Czech Republic.
This framework will classify individual qualifications and roles of professionals in the field of cybersecurity, describing their required education, abilities, and skills. It will serve as a unified basis for educating experts in this field in the Czech Republic.
The project aims to provide a platform for aligning the perspectives of stakeholders regarding current and future requirements for experts in the field of cybersecurity.
The framework will also include an action plan and an information system, enabling the practical utilization of the framework in the education and recruitment of specialists.
The subject of the research project is the analysis of the approach of small and medium-sized enterprises to fulfilling their legal, regulatory, and contractually assumed obligations and commitments, and in the broadest sense, to safeguard their interests and implicitly the public interest as well (the so-called compliance approach).
In the Czech Republic, a systematic compliance approach is not widely utilized. The project will, in its first phase, focus on identifying the causes and subsequently offering effective and understandable solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises.
The project's goal is to define the prerequisites for creating a model compliance programme for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Ultimately, the aim is to establish standardized compliance solutions in the digitalized world.
With the increase in criminal activities committed using modern technologies, there arises a need for law enforcement authorities to respond adequately to such offenses and effectively manage electronic evidence.
The project will enhance the capabilities of law enforcement authorities by providing legal, organizational, and technical solutions within the realm of cybercrime.
The research will focus on areas including ISP compliance with regulatory requirements for cooperation with law enforcement authorities, legal considerations regarding the utilization of electronic evidence in criminal proceedings and ancillary proceedings, as well as the development of tools for the technical preservation and analysis of electronic evidence.
After the CONCORDIA and CyberSec4Europe projects, MU has engaged in another international project. This time, in the Erasmus+ programme.
The project involves collaboration not only with partners from other countries but also with several Czech universities, such as the Brno University of Technology.
The joint effort is aimed at creating a functional framework of competencies and skills in cybersecurity, along with designing blueprints for educational institutions.
The main goal of the project is to enhance the level of cybersecurity in the Czech Republic and also to strengthen the country's capabilities in combating cybercrime.
The project's objectives will be achieved through the establishment of mechanisms for long-term cooperation between the American organization National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Cybersecurity Competence Centre, represented by Masaryk University.
NIST is a leading institution with a longstanding dedication to developing and implementing standards and conformity assessment in the field of cybersecurity. It serves as a valuable source of inspiration and an ideal partner for long-term cooperation with research centers NC3 and Cybersecurity Innovation Hub.
The full title of the project is Research of New Technologies to Increase the Capabilities of Cybersecurity Experts.
It aims to research methods and develop software for acquiring knowledge and skills in the field of cybersecurity.
The developed software will enable the implementation of a novel format of practical cybersecurity education through security games.
The project's outcomes will be utilized to enhance the professional readiness of employees within organizations directly responsible for ensuring the security of the Czech Republic.
The project aims to contribute to a systemic energy solution for the secure utilization of power flexibility combined with the integration of new technologies and market participants in the Czech Republic.
Together with system operators, tools will be developed that hold significant potential for real-world deployment.
