ABOUT CERIT
An IT education, research and innovation centre focused on building a resilient digital society
We are part of the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University
• FI MU was the first purely computer science faculty established in the Czech Republic.
• Today it provides computer science education at all levels of higher education to 2 thousand students and has over 5 thousand graduates.
• Research is carried out in nearly 20 laboratories, often in collaboration with partners from practice.
Establishment of CERIT in the FI MU statute
The Centre for Education, Research and Innovation in Information and Communication Technologies (CERIT) is responsible for the preparation and implementation of strategic projects for the development of educational and research infrastructure in the field of ICT, cooperation with industry and technology transfer, and the operation of the CERIT Science Park and Business Incubator.
The institute's subsequent mission is to harness the potential of the resettled companies for effective collaboration in ICT commercialization and technology transfer and to strengthen research programs.
We care about building a resilient digital society
• Our present and future is linked to digital technologies.
• CERIT's mission is to contribute with what we know and can to building a resilient digital society and its services, at all levels.
• We believe that a resilient digital society is a prerequisite for a secure and happy life for citizens in the Czech Republic and the EU, for economic prosperity, and for the protection of democracy and human rights.
We solve complex problems through multidisciplinary research
• The issues we address are related to cybersecurity, critical infrastructures, digital services, technology and law.
• They cannot be effectively addressed by a single expertise. It is necessary to combine the knowledge and approaches of multiple disciplines.
• At CERIT, we combine computer science, law, security studies, economics and management.
Research Directions at CERIT
Building cybersecurity capacities
Critical infrastructure resilience
Governance and regulation in cyberspace
Educating future experts
• A resilient digital society needs and will need experts who can protect its essential services and technologies.
• There is currently a critical shortage of such experts.
• We are addressing this problem by creating practical and multidisciplinary courses. We have created an undergraduate professional program in Cybersecurity and also collaborate to deliver a follow-on Master's program specialising in Cybersecurity Management.
We collaborate across industries, sectors and countries
• We cannot solve the problems we are dealing with alone. We strive to connect and unite:
• experts across disciplines
• scientific institutions, private sector and government
• organisations in different countries
• Cooperation is a fundamental feature of CERIT's functioning. In practice, this can be seen in our research projects and in the links we have built.
We have a solid infrastructure
• 2200 m2 for collaboration within the CERIT Science Park I we operate.
• We are involved in building CERIT Science Park II, which will offer more than 20 000 m2.
• We operate testbeds for industrial control systems in education and research.
• We have the KYPO Cyber Range Platform, which we have released as open-source.
• We are initiators, coordinators and part of CyberCampuscz.
